Ask any Asian you know what is their favorite dish? I bet more than half of the answers will be Noodle. Either fried noodle or soup noodle, many Asians and also non-Asians are obsessed with noodle dishes.

Growing up in a family, in which we didn’t eat anything but noodle soup for breakfast, I didn’t have a choice but to love experimenting with noodle dishes. My most favorite noodle is rice noodle, which is typically found in Pho in the US. But back home in Vietnam, we have so MANY other options you can cook with rice noodles.

Below is my most favorite Vietnamese rice noodle dished with links to the best recipes I have tried.

1. Pho Bo

Most important: Make the Broth Clear!

2. Bun Bo Hue

Important: Make the Broth nicely red and moderately spicy.

3. Bun Moc Doc Mung:

Important: Make the broth from pork bone only to add the flavor to the pork with mushroom mixture.

4. Bun Ca

Important: Make the broth with a stronger fishy taste by adding fishing sauce.

As you can see in all the recipes, the most important thing is to nail on the broth in order to make the perfect and authentic taste of the soup.

His impressions of Al Pacino, Vincent Price, Alan Alda, James Carville and many more, were spot-on; his original characters like TV reporter Herb Welch, Italian talk show host Vinny Vedecci, and countless game show hosts, are unforgettable. But no performance of Hader’s has elicited as big an audience reaction over the years as his portrayal of the New York City correspondent for Weekend Update, Stefon. And it was only right that the writers gave Stefon a proper NYC send-off, filled with just about everyone he’s talked of at the desk over the years.

More than words - Sheryl Sandberg and Angelina Jolie are opening new discussions on important issues about women.

Sheryl’s book - Lean In is serving as an essential component to shape the traditional view that men and also women think about women’s place in the workforce.

Angelina’ op-ed piece in the NYTimes - My Medical Choice is asking women to be open with their health problems and to take necessary preventive actions if needed.

I am thankful to both Sheryl and Angelina for their initiatives to start these crucial dialogues that have always been a concern for many women and men. To find solutions to these problems will be an on-going effort for many generations, but it’s great to be a part of the new history.

Draw me with your fantasy!

Great piece of art in High Line - in Chelsea - NYC. I am not sure who is the author behind this cool project. Yet, that person must be genius to be able to paint with water on cement. Because water dries of quickly the painter is able to draw many types of different faces and features in a short period of time.

These pictures were being projected on a big wall in the park so everyone can see the whole process of making one painting. Its like you are watching a tutorial video on how to paint with your own fantasy.

Here is one of the faces I spotted last Friday.

Did you know that there is a website where you can post things you would do if you weren’t afraid? I didn’t know such thing exists until I Googled “What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid”

http://whatwouldyoudoifyouwerentafraid.com/ is a cool site originating from partnership between Facebook Analog Research Library and Project M.

Facebook Analog Research Library is a playground for Facebook employees to have fun and create something with provided tools. Some common products of the analog are posters, booklets and T-shirts. Even the analog is Facebook internal platform, it certainly does inspire other companies to foster a more open and creative work place. Project M is a program for creative folks to work on projects that will create positive change. Many sites with similar goal have been existing (try to google “positive change”). But what is special about Project M is that it tries to form a larger community for creatively oriented individuals to contribute their talent and ideas.

Every day there are more sites like whatwouldyoudoifyouwerentafraid.com and The M Project are born. This is a good sign because It shows more and more people are doing things that they wouldn’t do if they were afraid. When will You (I) join them?

Women’s underwear before World War II was kind of elaborate. It was usually made of silk and it had pleats and it had to be ironed. This was in France. There was no such thing as ‘drip dry’ and when the war started, most of the men went to the front and the women had to take jobs. There was gas rationing and so everybody had bicycles and you had to be licensed to ride a bike in Paris and in one year bike licenses tripled: it went up to 11 million. The way women dressed with these long skirts and this very elaborate underwear didn’t lend itself to riding a bike so Schiap changed panties completely. First of all, there was famine, so she got rid of the buttons and put elastic in the waist so that as you were losing weight, your panties would stay on. Then, she made them out of drip-dry material, so you didn’t need a maid to iron them … and she added a double-slung crotch and suddenly women could ride their bikes with a lot more freedom.

This is the time of the year again. Congratulations Class of 2013 across the nation! You made it through the most difficult and also the most memorable four years of your life. I hope you all gonna have a wonderful time after graduation and a meaningful journey ahead.

To me “commencement” means to start something new. Back then when I graduated I had no idea what was about to unfold with my life and my future. But I will never forget the excitement and thrilling feeling I had while standing in Key Arena in Seattle. Once in a while when I have a long day and seem to lose track of my goals, I like to watch motivational commencement speeches from inspiring leaders.

Like many of you, Steve Job’s commencement speech at Standford not only impacted me but it also pushed me to listen to my inner voice or as Steve put it “Stay Hungry Stay Foolish”

My second favorite commencement speech is from Oprah also at Standford (why didn’t I graduate from Standford????). Oprah is my role model for a long time for her passion in what she does. After listening to her speech, I admired her for her visions and values that have changed lives of many people.

And today I came across another speech by Twitter CEO Dick Costolo. Before watching this speech I didn’t know that Dick was so into theater and improvisation acting. Through these classes he had learned the most 2 important lessons of his life: 1) Be bold and make courageous choices 2)Don’t worry what the next line will be.

So class of 2013, listen to your inner voice, have a purpose and be present for this moment only.

Once again congratulations class of 2013! Good luck to you all.
